Yankee Stadium is a baseball stadium located in the Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. It opened in 2009 as a replacement for the original Yankee Stadium that was built in 1923. Yankee Stadium is the home field of the New York Yankees (MLB) and New York City FC (MLS). It has a capacity of 54,251 spectators.

The current stadium officially opened on April 16th 2009 against the Cleveland Indians, prior to that, the Yankees hosted a two-game exhibition series in early April against the Chicago Cubs. The stadium replaced the original Yankee Stadium that operated from 1923 to 2008. Other events held at the stadium include College Football, NHL and Boxing.

It is the third-largest stadium in Major League Baseball by seating capacity.

Yankee stadium offers a variety of tours to suit all budgets which can include lunch at the Hard Rock Café which is situated inside the stadium. They also offer game day tours.

How to Get to New York City

New York is probably the easiest US city to fly direct to from the UK, it is served by 2 airports, New York JFK (JFK) or Newark (EWR) airports and you can fly from London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), London City (LCY) and Manchester (MAN). You can fly with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, United Airways, Delta, American Airlines, and a plethora of other airlines.

If you’re already in the US and looking to travel to/from New York, then you have the choice of most US domestic airlines including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airways and WestJet.

Public Transport

There are several options for public transportation around Yankee Stadium. You can take the subway, with the 4 and D trains stopping at the 161 St-Yankee Stadium station. You can also take the Metro-North Railroad to the Yankees-E 153rd Street station on the Hudson Line. Additionally, several bus lines including the Bx1, Bx2, Bx6, Bx13, and BxM4 stop near Yankee Stadium. You could also make use of free apps such as Moovit to get real-time timetables, maps and directions to the arena using local public transportation systems.

Rideshare services are also available in the vicinity with a designated drop off/pick up zone within walking distance of the stadium.

Where to Stay in New York City

Yankee Stadium is in the South Bronx neighbourhood of New York City. The area has a lot to offer tourists, some popular attractions beyond Yankee Stadium include the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. The neighbourhood is also home to Little Italy, where you can find authentic Italian cuisine and fresh pasta, cheese, meats, and pastries.

Beyond the Airbnb and Sonder options there are many hotels nearby to suit all budgets, which can be booked directly or via one of the hotel reservation booking sites. Some options close to Yankee Stadium include the Best Western Plus Stadium Inn and the Ramada by Wyndham Bronx Terminal.
