The National Hockey League (NHL) is comprised of 32 teams, divided between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Each Conference is further divided into 2 Divisions of 8 teams.

The NHL regular season starts in October and continues through till April, with each team playing 82 games.

25 are located in the United States and 7 teams in Canada.

The team with the best regular season record is presented the Presidents’ Trophy.

16 teams progress to the post season Stanley Cup playoffs, the top three teams in each division plus the two conference teams with the next highest number of points. The Stanley Cup playoffs run into June.

Post Season culminates in a best-of-seven Stanley Cup Finals series between the two conference play off champions and the winner is presented with the Stanley Cup.
