Subaru Park was designed as an initial step for economic development on the waterfront, with additional plans calling for a riverwalk amidst other entertainment, retail, and residential projects. The stadium was constructed by T.N. Ward Company, which is based in Ardmore.
Subaru Park opened on June 27th, 2010, as PPL Park. The naming rights changed hands in 2016 when the park was renamed Talen Energy Stadium. The name changed to Subaru Park in 2020.
As well as being the Unions home ground, Subaru Park also hosts the Army-Navy Cup (NCAA), Philadelphia Union II (MLS Next Pro), Collegiate Rugby Championship and Premier Lacrosse League.
