The Footprint Center is a multi-purpose arena located in Phoenix, Arizona. It was opened on June 6th, 1992, and has a seating capacity of 17,071 for basketball games. It is home to the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and hosts a variety of events from music concerts to wrestling.

The arena has had several names over the years. It was originally known as America West Arena from 1992 to 2006. From 2006 to 2015, it was known as US Airways Center. From 2015 to 2020, it was known as Talking Stick Resort Arena. In 2020, it was briefly known as PHX Arena before being renamed Phoenix Suns Arena in 2021. In July 2021, it was renamed Footprint Center after Footprint, an Arizona-based plant-based technology and materials company that makes biodegradable and compostable packaging.

How to Get to Phoenix

The nearest airport to the Footprint Center is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) which is located about 4 miles away from the arena. British Airways operates non-stop flights between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) with a flight time of approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes.

If you are already in the US and looking to travel to/from Phoenix, then you have the choice of most US domestic airlines including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airways and WestJet.

Public Transport

The Footprint Center is easily accessible by public transportation. Valley Metro light rail offers a convenient transportation option. In partnership with Valley Metro light rail, Footprint Center and the Phoenix Suns have established the “Rail Ride Event” program, which allows guests who purchase a ticket to an event at Footprint Center to ride Valley Metro light rail at no additional cost on the day of the event. Through Rail Ride Event, Valley Metro will recognize Footprint Center event tickets as valid light rail fare on the day of the event for four hours prior to the start of the event, through the end of the transit day.

Staying in Phoenix

Beyond the Airbnb and Sonder options there are many hotels nearby to suit all budgets, which can be booked directly or via one of the hotel reservation booking sites.

Downtown Phoenix is a bustling area with a variety of concerts, sporting events, restaurants, and bars. The whole of Downtown Phoenix is just over 1.5 square miles, so it is easy to get around without a car. Within those 1.5 miles are exciting concert venues, the Phoenix Convention Center, Japanese Friendship Garden, Phoenix Art Museum, and family-friendly attractions.

The Chase Field, home arena for the Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB), is just one block away.
