The SAP Center is an indoor arena located in San Jose, California. It is home to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. The building hosts approximately 150 events every year including sporting events, concerts and family shows. The capacity of the SAP Center varies depending on the event. For concerts, the capacity is 19,1901, for ice hockey games, it is 17,562.

Construction of the SAP Center began in 1991 and it opened in 1993 as the San Jose Arena. From then to 2013, it changed names to Compaq Center, and then to HP Pavilion. In June 2013, German software company SAP purchased the naming rights in a five-year deal worth US$3.35 million per year. The arena was renamed “SAP Center at San Jose” upon approval by the San Jose City Council.

How to Get to San Jose

The nearest airport to the SAP Center is the San Jose International Airport (SJC) which is approximately 3 miles away. You can take a bus from the Airport to the SAP Center via Terminal A, Santa Clara Transit Center, and Santa Clara & Montgomery in around 33 minutes. British Airways offers direct flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to San Jose International Airport (SJC).

If you’re already in the US then you have the choice of most domestic airlines including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airways and WestJet.

Public Transport

You can take a bus, train or light rail to get the SAP Center. Bus lines: 22, 64B, RAPID 522 pass nearby, the nearest stop is Santa Clara & Montgomery (E), which is a 2-minute walk from the SAP Center. Train line: Amtrak Thruway Connecting Service Ltd 3 also passes nearby, the nearest station is the San Jose Diridon Station, which is a 6-minute walk away. Finally there’s Light Rail Green Line, the nearest station is the San Fernando Station, which is a 7-minute walk away.

You could also make use of apps such as Moovit to get directions to the arena using public transportation.

The SAP Center is located in Downtown San Jose. It’s an artsy neighbourhood appreciated for its noteworthy cultural attractions such as the theatre and live music. There are many hotels to choose from within a mile of the SAP Center, including popular choices like Hyatt Place San Jose/Downtown, Signia by Hilton San Jose, The Westin San Jose, AC Hotel by Marriott San Jose Downtown, and Four Points by Sheraton San Jose Downtown.
