Commanders Field was built to replace Washington’s prior venue, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, in Washington, D.C. The stadium opened in 1997 as Jack Kent Cooke Stadium in honour of the recently deceased team owner. In November 1999, FedEx purchased the stadium’s naming rights for an average of $7.6 million per year. However, FedEx relinquished those rights in 2024

The stadium also hosts several events throughout the year, with a concert capacity of up to 82,000. Ed Sheeran and Beyonce have added the venue to their tour schedule, and the Army-Navy football game is scheduled at Commanders Field.

The nearest airport to Commanders Field is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), about 10.5 miles away. Other nearby airports include Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), which is 21.6 miles away, and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), which is 31.8 miles away.

American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair offer direct flights from London to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).

If you’re already in the US, you have the choice of most US domestic airlines, including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airways, and WestJet.

You can get to Commanders Field by Bus, Metro or Train. The closest Metro station is Morgan Boulevard on the Blue or Silver Lines. From there, you can turn left onto Garrett Morgan Boulevard and follow the sidewalk for less than a mile to Commanders Field. Bus lines 23 and F14 also have routes that pass near Commanders Field. Brightseat Road at Bishop Peebles Drive and Hill Oaks Rd + Michele Dr are the closest bus stops to Commanders Field.

You could use apps such as Moovit, which are usually free to download, to get directions to the stadium using public transportation.

Commanders Field is about 20 kilometres from downtown Washington D.C. There are several hotels and restaurants within a few miles of the stadium. Some popular areas to stay when visiting Commanders Field might include downtown Washington D.C., which offers a wide range of accommodation options and is accessible by public transportation. You may also consider staying in nearby areas such as Arlington or Alexandria in Virginia, or Silver Spring or Bethesda in Maryland.

Beyond the Airbnb and Sonder options there are many hotels nearby to suit all budgets, which can be booked directly or via one of the hotel reservation booking sites.
