Ground-breaking for the Ball Arena was held on November 20th, 1997, and it was completed in October 1999. The arena replaced McNichols Sports Arena as the home of the Avalanche and Nuggets. Its completion was marked by a Celine Dion concert. From its opening through 2020, the naming rights were held by PepsiCo. On October 22, 2020, the naming rights were sold to Broomfield-based Ball Corporation.
The capacity of Ball Arena varies depending on the event. For basketball games, the capacity is 19,520. For hockey and lacrosse games, the capacity is 17,809. For concerts, the capacity can be up to 20,000.
