Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Opened in August 2017 as a replacement for the Georgia Dome. The MBS is the home stadium of the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Atlanta United FC (MLS). It has a capacity of 71,000 seats and features a retractable roof and a giant circular video board. It also hosts major concerts and events.

The stadium is owned by the state government of Georgia through the Georgia World Congress Centre Authority, and operated by AMB Group, the parent organization of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC.

The stadium officially opened on August 26, 2017, with a Falcons preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, despite the retractable roof system being incomplete at the time. Other events held at the MBS are the SEC football championship game and the Peach Bowl.

The MBS offers tours for visitors which include stops at the locker rooms, field, Window to the City, Skybridges, and Clubs.

How to Get to Atlanta

Atlanta is served by Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport which, since 1998 has held the title of Worlds Busiest Airport by Passenger Traffic. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic both fly direct and as it’s a Delta Airways Hub Airport, who codeshare with Virgin Atlantic, there are plenty of flight times to choose from when travelling from the UK.

If you’re already in the US and looking to travel to/from Atlanta, then you have the choice of most US domestic airlines including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airways and WestJet.

Public Transport

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is the principal public transport operator in the Atlanta. The train runs from the Airport to Downtown Atlanta (20 mins) and beyond. Click here for the MARTA website.

The MARTA station is located at the domestic terminal, so you will need to catch the shuttle bus from the International Terminal which is located at Bus Stop 3 at the front of the Terminal. The journey takes about 13 minutes and drops off at the entrance to the Domestic Terminal and the MARTA station is just inside the doors. The Return is Bus Stop 1.

Staying in Atlanta

Due to the amount of Conventions Atlanta hosts including being home to America’s Mart, there are plenty of options in the Downtown Area, from Airbnb and Sonder to Premium hotels, either booked directly or via one of the hotel reservation booking sites. It would be worth checking if any conventions are on for when you visit as it gets busy and the prices all rise accordingly.

Buckhead is an option for the price conscious and is a little further out, but on the MARTA route.

To get to the Downtown area from the airport, I prefer to use public transport, but Taxi’s, Uber or Lyft are available.

Atlanta Falcons Tickets

The Atlanta Falcons sell their tickets via Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster is the official ticket outlet for the NFL.

For most teams, Ticketmaster sells tickets on behalf of the team and resells tickets on behalf of ticket sellers. You can tell the difference on the site as the Blue dots are tickets from the team themselves, and the pink dots are from verified sellers.

Here are links to the main ticket resale sites. Click on the link, which will open up a new window, and you can compare the prices on the different ticket resell sites, bearing in mind that the prices shown may have further selling platform fees added, so take time to read my tips to Buying Tickets in North America.

I recommend downloading the team’s Mobile App to your phone as it contains much Gameday information for the stadium.

Game Day

MBS has a few options for Tailgating, from Atlanta Falcons Official Terrapin Tailgate at The Home Depot Backyard to tipping up at a tailgating area and look for a “Guests Welcome” sign, usually with a $ amount and you can join their tailgate, a Non US accent goes a long way!!

One bonus of the MBS is that the concessions inside the stadium are not allowed to charge more in the stadium than they do outside in their own restaurants which means the food and drink are well priced for a US Sports Stadium. You can also use the app to order to your seat!

If you want to get your photo in front of the Largest Statue of a Falcon in the world, you will need to go early on game day or if time allows, take in a Stadium Tour.

Tickets can be purchased via a link on the Falcons website, which pushes you to Ticketmaster, as tickets are Mobile, you can leave it as late as Kick off!
