While there are plenty of teams to go and see in Washington, frequent Amtrak trains running between the major cities on the East Coast meant that I could base myself in the US Capitol and do day trips to Baltimore and Philadelphia.
For this trip, I flew to Washington on Tuesday 4th of April with United Airlines out of Heathrow Terminal 2, departing at 8.00 am and landing at 11.15 am.
From Dulles International Airport, I took the METRO for the 45-minute journey to where I was staying in the downtown area of DC. As I was in Washington for the week, I purchased the 7-day pass to cover all my METRO journeys for my stay in DC.
I decided to locate myself in the Downtown area of Washington DC and stayed at a Sonder property called The Quincy. When I’m staying in the same place for a few days, I like to have an apartment-type place with a kitchenette, which many Sonder’s have.
My itinerary is as follows:
- Wed 5th Apr MLB Tampa Bay Rays @ Washington Nationals 1.05 pm Nationals Park
- Thu 6th Apr MLB NY Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles 3.05 pm Camden Yards
- Fri 7th Apr NBA Miami Heat @ Washington Wizards 7.00 pm Capital One Arena
- Sat 8th Apr NHL Florida Panthers @ Washington Capitals 1.00 pm Capitol One Arena
- Sat 8th Apr MLS Columbus Crew @ D.C. United 7.30 pm Audi Field
- Sun 9th Apr MLB Cincinnati Reds @ Philadelphia Phillies 1.05 pm Citizens Bank Park
- Sun 9th Apr NHL Boston Bruins @ Philadelphia Flyers 6.00 pm Wells Fargo Centre
Within Washington DC, I used the Metro system to get around; for Baltimore, I travelled by Amtrak train and then the Light Rail Link, and forĀ Philadelphia, I travelled by Amtrak train and then the SEPTA Rail Transit.
I flew back to the UK with United Airlines on Monday 10th of April, Departing at 5.30 pm and landing at London Heathrow Terminal 2 just before 6.00 am on Tuesday.
